Ishizuka Corporation

Japanese products,
to Southeast Asia.

Ishizuka Corporation is a trading company engaged in the export of Japanese products. In addition to purchasing at the source and exporting on our own account, we act as an export agent, support producers in their manufacturing operations, run our own outlets overseas, invest in businesses along the chain, and improve operations through technology.

About us

The origins of Ishizuka Corporation

The Ishizuka family were fishermen. Our origins lie with the founder, a younger son who left the household to establish himself and took up whatever trade he could. One of those ventures found its footing around 1960, in metalworking, as Japan's postwar boom lifted the motor industry. From that base he widened the business into wholesaling, woodwork, beekeeping and farming, making and selling in equal measure.

The second generation carried the business through the years that followed, and the third has now taken it on. The trading division was established to bring that founding spirit back into our own hands, and it carries the name the family has traded under from the beginning.

Company

Our view

Returning the value of the Japanese name to the regions that earn it

Across Southeast Asia, the Japanese name is already established. A few characters of Japanese on a package are enough to signal quality and good taste. Pick the product up, however, and much of it turns out to have been made in China. Our president saw this at first hand while working in Vietnam and Malaysia and travelling the region.

Matcha is going the same way. In the volume-driven foodservice market, powdered green tea from outside Japan is now widely sold under the name MATCHA. Japanese food has become a culture in these markets, and yet most of the value it creates goes to those who have moved faster in production and in trade.

With the yen where it is, we see an opportunity for Japan's producing regions to send good products out into the world and be properly paid for them. We handle every step from purchasing at the source through to the shop counter so that the value of Japanese origin returns to the regions as price.

Business

From purchasing at the source to selling on the ground

Our principle is to carry what we receive from a producing region all the way to the shop floor overseas. Beyond buying and selling, our work extends to supporting production, selling locally, and investing in the businesses that make the chain work.

  • Export

We purchase goods and export them on our own account.

  • Export agency

We negotiate with overseas buyers and handle export procedures on behalf of producers.

  • Production support

We help processing and manufacturing plants improve their operations.

  • Retail and food service

We operate our own outlets in the markets we serve.

  • Business investment

We invest in the companies that carry a product from the growing region through to the point of sale.

  • Operational improvement through technology

We build the systems behind ordering, inventory management and overseas sales, applying artificial intelligence to lighten the daily workload.

More on our business

Da Nang, Vietnam

Opening a directly operated matcha café

The café is financed and run by Ishizuka Corporation. Our group already has a subsidiary in Vietnam in another line of business, and our president spent years working in the country, so we know how business is done there and the people we work alongside. That is why Vietnam is our first market.

Within Vietnam we chose Da Nang. A port city on the central coast with an international airport and a long stretch of coastline, Da Nang is emerging as an international tourism destination and is among the fastest developing areas in Southeast Asia.

The café will serve as a place to put Japanese matcha into customers' hands directly, together with the name of the region that grew it. Preparations for opening are under way.
